Unfortunately, many Brits, like myself, who were in serious relationships with non-EU citizens at the time were denied the right to a family life.

Meanwhile, non-citizens, mostly Europeans, could bring their entire families to the UK under the EU right of free movement. As a result, the then-conservative government tightened the conditions for a spouse visa because it couldn’t stop or control EU migration.

This made it impossible for working and middle-class individuals to establish a family in the United Kingdom. I was 60 pounds short of meeting the criteria each month and ended up working three jobs from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m., six days a week.

Woefully, the paid-for legal advice I received was incorrect; I was falsely led to believe that I required six months’ worth of pay stubs to apply for a spouse visa. It turned out that I needed one year of pay stubs because I was working numerous jobs to complete the requirements. Faced with the truth and six months of torture that had begun to cripple my body, I decided to say farewell to the UK.

I participated in game mod communities as a 3D model skinner and level designer for amateur projects, mainly for Quake, Blood, and Half-Life.

BPWeb UK, 1999

I was the principal designer for Random Violence Technology’s website and T-shirt.

Who? Mortis, from Robot Wars UK.

If you watched BBC Robot Wars from season 2 or the US Battle Bots and Mortis episodes, you saw my work.

SWG: 2005

Was one of the major developers that pioneered the emulation of Star Wars Galaxies MMORPG.

I was the one who took apart and modified the game’s TRE files, and my investigation led me to the conclusion that Bespin and other features shown in SWG Legends were conceivable in 2005. Prior to the 2005 CU game update, I was one of the first people in the game to unlock the Jedi; fewer than 1% of the player community achieved this.

Cyberdog: 2007–2009

Apprenticed as an electronic sculpture for Jules Harpley at Cyberdog Camden and Brighton stores.

If you reside in the UK and have ever visited Cyberdog in London or Brighton, you will have seen my electronic sculpture work.
